The first thing that strikes you as you walk towar

The first thing that strikes you as you walk towards Espace Niemeyer, Oscar Niemeyer’s headquarters for the French Communist Party in Paris is the futuristic dome that houses the central meeting room, accessed from within the building. Building began in 1971 and was completed in 1980. Located in the 19th arrondissement, the experience of walking around the dome and then entering, down a slope into the building is fascinating, it’s as if the building envelops you. Inside it’s almost sculptural, curved and flowing, a perfect example of design and functionality. It does not feel like a political headquarters at all. At every turn the building features Niemeyer’s signature curvilinear forms and is a powerful example of his modernist vision.
