Rear window onto Giacometti sculptures in the Barbican. The Swiss artist born at the very beginning of the 20th century, and one of the century’s greatest sculptors. Best remembered for his work after 1945, for his tall and seemingly fragile figures. In his time Giacometti was influenced by surrealism and cubism but his work, including his body of paintings are conscious contributions to the philosophical questions of the human condition that roiled the 20 Century’s great artists. The Barbican Estate and its arts centre the @barbicancentre offers all sorts of perspectives and views and is itself a magnificent statement of confident and optimistic 20th Century creativity.
