Still known as ‘The IBM building’ in Downtown Still known as ‘The IBM building’ in Downtown Pittsburgh, this is a city landmark building designed in 1964 by New Orleans–based architectural firm, Curtis and Davis. Located at 600 Grant Street, today it’s named the United Steelworkers Building for its primary tenants. Noted for its unique diamond grid facade, a welded steel exoskeleton, described as a ‘diagrid’ construction (diagonal grid). Architectural Review wrote in 1964 that the building, ‘….represents a radical departure in building design.’ Image with thanks to @modarchitecture
Autumn here in the Barbican is so beautiful. The c Autumn here in the Barbican is so beautiful. The concrete has a special quality it almost glows as the sun catches it unless it’s a day like today when it pours with rain ALL DAY when it is fantastically and endlessly grey.
