David Corio’s left art school in 1978, he moved to London taking photos for New Musical Express, Time Out, The Face and Black Echoes. His images include The Roxy, Sunsplash, the Marquee, The Tunnel NYC, Rock Against Racism, Notting Hill Carnival, Exploited, Empire Ballroom, Wetlands, Gossips, and Glastonbury. In ’92 he moved to NYC, continuing to capture musicians and arts and nightlife for the NY Times and various record labels and magazines.
His photos are in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, The Victoria & Albert Museum, The ICA and The Photographer’s Gallery, London and the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Washington DC and the Institute of Contemporary Photography, NYC.
Published by small independent publishing house Cafe Royal Books, created by photographer and Fine Art and Illustration Lecturer Craig Atkinson. His zines are collected by MoMa, The Tate, the British Library, the Glasgow School of Art, the Martin Parr Foundation and the V&A to name a few. Craig’s clients include the New York Times, Dazed, Orange, GQ and the Royal Photographic Society.
