He triggers memories about stuff you’ve seen in films, sounds you’ve heard – shops you passed on the bus. To say that Jonny collects ephemera would be part of the story, defined as ‘collectable items that were originally expected to have only short-term usefulness or popularity’, in his case, it’s not about short term thrills – he’s collecting for a purpose, and he’s collecting lots of things, in this glorious book he focuses on his collection of carrier bags. And a very particular selection – they were produced by British record stores from the 1940s to the 1990s.
