One of the most powerful elements about the Barbican Estate is how perfectly it is designed - the sheer scale and sense of balance, thought out with care and consideration by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon. Simply put it works, there is a synergy between the residential and the public parts of the estate, concrete buildings linked by green space and water. It’s covered in glass mosaic and contains the message ‘The people to the University, the University to the people. For a neohumanist national culture of universal depth.’ According to Edemex.com ‘The composition represents a group of university students who move from east to west, the relief is projected towards the top of the figures, achieving an effect of double movement that goes from right to left and from top to bottom.

The university students carry in their hands elements alluding to their activity: a compass, a pencil, the model of a structure, a book and advance towards the town providing the knowledge acquired. It is represented in the student who with one arm points to the university and in the other carries a pencil whose direction establishes a line of escape that seems to leave the wall (towards the street) alluding to the interaction of the town and the university.’
