The grounds of the museum and foundation include a commissioned Richard Serra artwork designed for the space named Joe in memory of Joe Pulitzer Jr, American publisher of the St Louis Post Dispatch and grandson of Joseph founder of the newspaper, who, together with his rival William Randolph Hurst created the modern newspaper industry. Joseph Snr chaired the Pulitzer group and created the Pulitzer Prize.

The mission of the Foundation,

‘To provide dynamic experiences with art in our unique environment and community’.
