Joaquim Cardozo

Brazilian structural engineer, academic, illustrator, poet and editor of architectural and art magazines. A linguist, fluent in fifteen languages. Recognised for his invaluable understanding of the calculations of structures which enabled the building of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Brasilia (featured in this image).

Worked hand in hand with Oscar Niemeyer, who he met in 1941, in Brasilia and Pampulha Architectural Complex. A Professor at the School of Engineering and one of the founders of the School of Fine Arts of Pernambuco.
